John McDonnell MP launches Hopi's anti-sanction campaign

In the next few months, Hopi will be stepping up its campaign against the sanctions imposed on Iran. The sanctions clearly don’t hurt the theocratic regime (neither the current leadership nor the reformist leaders-in-waiting). It is the normal working class people, the women and the unemployed, who are suffering most from the sanctions. As such, the sanctions campaign is integral to the US plans of ‘regime change from above’.

Our campaign concentrates on three main aspects:

  • Campaigning to overthrow the existing sanctions
  • Campaigning to prevent new, additional sanctions being adopted
  • Raising money to help some of unemployed workers and those who have not received wages for many months
These are some of the things we’re planning to do:
  • produce a leaflet that brings together the main arguments against sanctions
  • produce a model resolution for trade union branches and other organisations
  • organise a press launch in mid-March
  • organise a working conference in June
  • publish reports from Iranians explaining how the sanctions affect them

We would like to encourage existing Hopi branches to discuss the campaign as soon as possible and let us know if they have any additional ideas or suggestions. Also, we hope that Hopi supporters and members who are not yet organised in branches will take the initiative to set those up in order to facilitate the effectiveness and spread of the anti-sanctions campaign.
